Anonymous asked: “I don't know if you can answer this but I'm asking anyway. Is going 50% with an artist a good or bad idea? Or paying his normal rates? His going to be doing all the art but it's going to full script, so I'm basically doing everything and he's just doing the art(but all of it). Also is going 50% for first issue(44 pages) and then the issues(22 pages) after that paying his normal rate considered a cheap move?”
I think the phrase “just doing the art” is what’s lousing you up. Because “just doing the art” is HUGE.
That’s the face of your comic book, what anybody who looks at it sees first, the visualization of whatever ideas you may have.
Can you do what the artist does? If not, I’d be more careful about phrases like “just doing the art.” Are you “just writing the words”?
Whatever terms you and your artist agree to between yourselves are fine; that’s between the two of you.
